Hot Yoga



If you’re interested in yoga but typically like a more intense work out, Hot Yoga could be right for you! What is hot yoga you ask? Hot yoga is a higher intensity yoga done in a room that is heated above normal room temperature, that is typically between 80 to 100°F depending on what the yoga instructor wants. Hot yoga includes a variety of poses and our class at Teesha Yoga studio takes place daily from 8-8:45 in the morning. There are numerous benefits from practicing yoga in general, but adding a little heat adds a few more benefits you may not be aware of.


  • Hot yoga improves your flexibility! They say that it’s better to stretch after you’ve warmed up your muscles and a hot environment is the best way to get started. The heat allows you to get those muscles warmed up, allowing you to stretch farther and get a better range of motion

  • Hot yoga also burns more calories. According to healthline.com, you normally burn 183 an hour with traditional yoga but just by adding a little heat, men can lose up to 460 calories and women up to 330 calories and hour

  • Hot yoga also reduces stress and can ease symptoms of depression. Yoga is a natural way to relieve stress and based on a study done in 2018 on stressed, inactive adults it was found that a 16 week program of hot yoga not only relieved stress levels, it also improved their overall quality of life and their sense of control over their behavior and social environment

  • Hot yoga also provides a cardiovascular boost! There are particular poses that can give your heart, lungs and muscles a more challenging workout in hot environments. Just one session of hot yoga can get your heart pumping at the same rate as a brisk walk at 3.5 miles per hour.


There are also other benefits of hot yoga such as increased bone density and better skin, but there are some risks that come along with Hot Yoga such as dehydration and heat exhaustion. It’s important to be hydrated before taking a hot yoga class. Make sure to drink water before, during and after class to ensure hydration. Also, wear clothes that are light on your skin, nothing too thick and make sure it’s breathable because there will definitely be a lot of sweating! It’s also important to leave at least an hour and a half after eating before taking your yoga class to allow yourself to fully digest. Last but not least, listen to your body, Your body often knows when it’s about to pushed too far so if you ever feel lightheaded during class, take a moment to drink water or load up on some electrolytes.
